Professor Amanda J Ramirez

Professor Amanda Ramirez graduated from University College London and trained as a psychiatrist at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Trust. Her particular area of expertise is the management of psychological distress among those affected by cancer, including anxiety, depression, sexual & body image problems, relationship and communication difficulties.

She currently leads the development of psychological services across the NHS hospitals of South and West London, as part of the London Cancer Alliance. Before that she was the Director of the Dimbleby Cancer Information and Support Service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Trust over 10 years. Until recently she was the national clinical lead for cancer patient experience. She developed a national communication skills training programme for cancer clinicians, and regularly facilitates courses for senior cancer consultants.

She is recognised throughout the world for her research on psychological distress in those affected by cancer, the mental health of cancer doctors and promoting early presentation of cancer. She is an author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

She is a member of the National Advisory Committees for breast, bowel and cervical cancer screening and has recently developed the new information for the public about the NHS Breast, Bowel and Cervical Cancer Screening Programmes.

Her practice is not based at 108 Medical Chambers but is a part of the wider clinical team.
